Elaborately etched and engraved chart on 2 sheets joined by Romeyn de Hooghe in full original colour from "Atlas Maritime.. Cartes Marines A L'Usage des Armées du Roy de la Grande Bretagne..", pub­lished by Pieter Mortier, Amsterdam 1693. PM 59,5 x 95 cm.

The charts of the Atlas Maritime were engraved after manuscripts in the possession of the British Admiralty. Our chart is adorned with 2 marvellous cartouches in the lower corners: The left hand one contains a dedication to Elector Maximilian Emanuel of Bavaria, governor of the Southern Netherlands at that time. The splendid cartouche in the right hand corner shows general views of Calais and Dunkerque, surmounted by the coat-of-arms of Maximilian Emanuel overarched by the electoral hat. - Full impres­sion of the plate on Dutch laid paper with original white margins at all sides. The map, the views and the dedication in full shining original colour! Some folds smoothened, minor imperfections mended. - A splendid and well preserved chart. Copies of this scarce 1st state in full original colour are rare!
