Engraving on 2 plates after a drawing by Friedrich Bernhard Werner, engraved on 2 joined sheets by Johann Bernhard Hattinger. Published by Johann Friedrich Probst, Augsburg c. 1745. Sheetsize: 42 x 114, 5, platemark: 37 x 101 cm.
1st and only state of the monumental panoramic view of Lucca published by the Wolff/Probst publishing house in Augsburg. The drawing for the print was done by the artist Friedrich Bernhard Werner (1690 – 1776), who travelled to Lucca and executed the drawing on the spot. The view shows the city as it looked at around 1735. – Fine dark and even impression on wove paper with watermarks. Wide blank original margins. Untouched by a restorer: Few faint vertical creases not been taken out, some minor imperfections in outer white margins. But an outstanding copy. – Brillante impressione con grandi margini. Solo in margini insignificanti difetti.
