“La Sicile, Avec les anciens noms de presque toutes ses Places, Rivieres, Chasteaux, & et diverses observations nouvelles”. Engraved map with original border and cartouche colour by Pierre Duval, “A Paris Chez l’Autheur 1675 (6?)”. (PM) 39,9 x 48,7 cm.
Pastoureau, Duval II, map 58. It is difficult to decide, whether the engraved date in the map is either a misprinted “1675” or a corrected “1676”. In any case the map is normally included in Duval’s “Cartes de geographie les plus nouvelles et les plus fideles” from 1677, cf. P., Duval II D. See also Dufour-La Gumina 135 for an earlier state dated 1672. - Fine and strong impression with broad original margins. The colour on the map is original. Guard removed. Negligible imperfections in margins only. Excellent condition.
