Nr. 1472: Regni Mexicani seu Novae Hispaniae Tabula

Strong impression in 1st state

"Regni Mexicani seu Novae Hispaniae, Floridae, Novae Angliae, Carolinae, Virginiae, et Pensylvaniae, nec non Insularum Archipelagi Mexicani in America Septentrionali accurata Tabula". Copper engraved map in original wash colour by Johann Baptist Homann, published by himself, Nürnberg 1712. PM 49 x 58,5, sheetsize 52,5 x 60cm.

1st state, before the title "Kaiserlicher Geograph" and the Imperial printing privilege. Our example has obviously been taken from Homann's "Atlas von hundert Charten" published in 1712. Homann's detailed map is based on Delisle's map of Mexico and Florida, first published in 1703. But Homann's map is even more attractive by three pictorial embellishments. These refer to the hunting activities of Indians, silver mining and sea battles concerning the Spanish Silver Fleet. - Full dark impression of the plate with original margins. The impression itself strong and even.
Unobtrusive restoration to centrefold in lower margin. Many place names underlined by an old hand, but in a not disturbing manner. All in all a fine example in excellent state.
