“Asia recens summa cura delineata. Auct: Iud: Hondio”. Engraved map in colour with four figured borders. “Excusum in aedibus Joanni Janßonij Amstelodami 1623”. The figured borders consist of city views and figures in local costumes. Top border: Views or plans of Famagusta, Rodus, Damasco, Ierusalem, Aden and Ormus. Bottom border: Views or plans of Goa, Calecuth, Candy, Bantam, Gammalamme and Macao. Left Border: Syri, Arabes, Armenius Perse, Balaguatae and Insulani Sumatrae. Right border: Iavanai, Inc: Molucc: et Bandae, Chinenses, Moscovitae and Tartari. 45, 5 x 56 cm.
Rare and early Dutch map with 4 figured borders: Schilder, Monumenta Cartographica Neerlandica, vol. VI, map 23 (2nd state of 5). - Full impression of the whole plate with adequate white margin, only at left hand side narrow or partly cut to platemark. Original colour with recent additions. No centrefold! Restoration mainly to margins, some creases taken out. For strengthening partly backed with tissue paper. In all an attractive copy of a scarce map.
